Last night’s 2025 Albie Thomas Mile, which doubles as the Australian championship, closed a highly successful year in NSW and Australian track and field. A bonus was a victory for the host club Bankstown, with Hancock-Cameron claiming the women’s mile.

World Record Beacroft, #2 Aussie All-time McMillen

The NSW halcyon race-walking days of the 90s could be ready for return following two world class race walking performances last night at the NSW 10,000m Race Walking Championships at Homebush. Heading the performances were teenager Isaac Beacroft who broke the World U20 Record, while in the women’s Lizzy McMillen clocked the second fastest time in Australian history and the fastest by an Aussie for 35-years.

The incredible year by high jumper Nicola Olyslagers, along with coach Matt Horsnell, were recognised last evening at the prestigious Sport NSW Athlete of the Year Awards as they claimed the athlete of the year and coach of the year awards.

State Relays: The team behind the teams – the club administrators

With the dust settled on a successful two weekends of State Relay Championships, we would like to take a moment to recognise a key group who make it all possible – the club administrators. They work enormous hours to ensure athletes have an enjoyable experience. Rightfully we regularly thank the technical officials and personal coaches, but the primary team competition for our individual sport is the relays. They rely hugely on those unsung club administrators.

NSW 3000m Championships: title #3 for Phillips, Australian record for Rowbotham & redemption for Hancock-Cameron

The 2025 edition of the NSW 3000m championships, held at ES Marks Field, wrote a number of headlines into the history books of these championships. A first ever three peat in men’s race by Josh Phillips; redemption by Jaylah Hancock-Cameron who was disqualified last year after winning; and 15-year-old Evan Rowbotham destroyed the Australian under-16 3000m record by nine seconds.

Athletics NSW members have been recognised with finalists in six categories of the prestigious 2025 Sport NSW Awards to be held at The Star on Monday 24 November 2025.

NSW 10,000m: Ed good on his return to track

We saw contrasting races at last night’s NSW 10,000m championships held at The Crest track in Bankstown. In the men’s we were treated to a master class from Ed Goddard, while Cicely Brown won a see-sawing battle in the women’s race.

World Para Athletics Championships – Four NSW medallists

The 12th World Para Athletics Championships concluded overnight in New Delhi, India, with four NSW athletes finishing on the podium. Mali Lovell and Rheed McCracken each claiming a pair of silver medals, while Luke Bailey and Lexie Brown were members of the bronze medal winning Universal 4x100m Relay.

NSW All Schools Day 4 Review: Evan Rowbotham just misses Australian record

We have witnessed some incredible performances over the four days of the NSW All Schools Championships, but on the final day of competition we saw arguably the performances of the meet when a 37-year-old Australian record was threatened by Evan Rowbotham. In the 15-years 800m, Rowbotham clocked 1:51.85, to just miss the record set in 1988 by Victorian Mark Holcombe.
