It is with great sadness we advise the athletics community the news of the passing of Peter Barnes, one the most valued and significant volunteers to athletics in NSW. Over four decades of service, Peter contributed to the sport at every level and almost in every aspect. He will be greatly missed.

NSW All Schools: Day 2 Joseph-Riogi launches the second longest throw in the World

Day two at the 2026 NSW All Schools Championships being held in miserable wet conditions, saw two of the greatest performances achieved in the 90-year history of the championships. Bathurst’s Dylan Ruming clocked the fastest 400m time in the history of the championships, while in the javelin Tallara Joseph-Riogi was incredible launching the second longest javelin throw in the World for an under-18 athlete.

NSW All Schools: The remarkable one year progression of Alice Hill and Dylan Ruming

In just 12 months 400 metre athletes Alice Hill and Dylan Ruming have gone from emerging athletes to the best under-18 athletes in Australia, and won medals at the World U20 Championships. For every athlete reading this – why not you ?? Alice and Dylan will line up next week at the NSW All Schools Championships in the 17-years events with Alice entered in the 200m and 400m, while Dylan attempts the sprint treble. He is fresh off an incredible 47.67 at the CHS.

NSW has lost an iconic member of our athletics community with the passing of Penny Gillies OAM. After a battle with cancer, Penny passed away last week in Sydney, aged 75.

Sydney/NSW Half Marathon: Run Crew double - Abi Nordberg and Tom Do Canto

Run Crew club had dominated the 2026 Sydney Half Marathon, winning the men’s and women’s NSW Half Marathon titles as a record nearly 3000 athletes competed across three events at Sydney Olympic Park today. In perfect conditions, NSW’s premier road runner, Tom Do Canto won the men’s race, while clubmate Abi Nordberg the women’s.

World Masters Championships: 43 medal haul for NSW

NSW athletes have won a remarkable 43 individual medals, including 15 gold, during the two week-long World Masters Athletics Championships in the southern Korean city of Daegu.

Australian Cross-Country: Juniors and teams success

NSW depth was on show at the Australian Cross Country Championships in Ballarat, where our NSW teams placed on the podium in all but one of the 21 events. Seven athletes were also crowned individual Australian Champions.

Australian Junior Race Walks: Zoe Woods defends Australian title

In very contrasting weather conditions to her World Juniors two weeks ago, Zoe Woods was back into competition in Ballarat today at the Australian Junior Race Walking Championships. In the 12 degrees temperatures, she defended her Australian road walk title. She was one of three NSW athletes to be crowned Australian champion, alongside Joel Byatt (U20 men) and Eric Colgan (U12 boys).

Australian Cross-Country: Holly Campbell crowned Australian champion

In difficult muddy and boggy conditions today in Ballarat, Sydney Holly Campbell was crowned Australian Cross Country champion in the women’s senior 10km event. Joining her on the podium, in third, was Jaylah Hancock-Cameron and in the men’s open 10km Luke Hince also claimed bronze.

Australian Cross Country Championships: NSW Preview

The Australian Cross Country Championships this Saturday, return to Ballarat in country Victoria for the second consecutive year. The 84th staging of the event on Saturday 22nd August, will conduct events from under-11s to seniors plus Masters. Titles are some of the most difficult to win as athletes from 800m to 10,000m vie for the title.
