What are qualification opportunities?
The athletics competition eco-system is connected from the state, national and international level through a permit based system. Depending on the type of competition an athlete competes in dictates whether their result can be recognised for qualification purposes at a national, or international level. In NSW there are three (3) tiers of competition:
- Gold tier - World Athletics permit events.
- Silver tier - NSW Athletics state permit events.
- Bronze tier - Club competition non-permited events.

Note:
- It is important that athletes check the calendar page on the NSWA website, as not all events or age groups may be permitted at this level at every meet indicated below.
- Please ensure you read the applicable entry guidelines or selection policy to ensure you have met the qualifications for the applicable event.
- NSWA will also accept performances from reciprocal events delivered by other state associations.
- State Permit performances are not eligible for World Athletics Ranking points, international qualification standards, or inclusion on an athlete's World Athletics profile.
- Where an event is not permitted (bronze tier), the competition is still valid and valuable, however performances cannot be used for official national or international qualification, rankings or records.
