ABOUT NSW Athletics

NSW Athletics is the unified home of athletics in New South Wales, bringing together track and field, cross country, road running, race walking, grassroots community participation and high performance pathways under one connected sport.

Built on the foundations of the Partnership between Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW, NSW Athletics represents a new era for the sport, one that is simpler, more connected and athlete-centred.

Whether you are taking your first steps in Little Athletics, competing for a club, coaching, officiating, volunteering or representing Team NSW, NSW Athletics exists to support every stage of the athletics journey.

A More Connected Sport

For generations, athletics in NSW has been supported by two proud organisations; Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW, each playing an important role in growing and delivering the sport.

In 2024, the organisations embarked on the NSW Athletics Partnership, the most significant reform in athletics in nearly 60 years. Guided by a shared commitment to place athletes at the centre of decision-making, the partnership has progressively brought the sport closer together and removed many of the barriers that previously existed between participation pathways.

This collaboration has already delivered meaningful outcomes for athletes, families, clubs and volunteers, including:

  • A more connected and simplified membership experience,
  • Reduced duplication in administration and processes,
  • A clearer competition and championship pathway,
  • More aligned rules and competition specifications,
  • Increased participation and membership growth,
  • Expanded opportunities for athletes across all ages and abilities, and
  • Greater progression to state, national and international representation.

Today, NSW Athletics reflects the next stage in that evolution, providing one clear identity for athletics in New South Wales while continuing to honour the proud history and legacy of both organisations.

Looking Forward

NSW Athletics represents more than a new name or logo, it represents a commitment to working together to strengthen the future of our sport.

By bringing our community closer together, reducing unnecessary complexity and investing in a more connected athletics system, we are building a sport that is stronger, more sustainable and better positioned to support participants at every level.

We are proud of our history, excited by the progress already made, and even more optimistic about what comes next.
