REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS FAQ'S

Introduced for the 23/24 season, the Regional Championships will take place in each of the eight (8) Athletics NSW regions and delivered in a relaxed environment. These Championships are available to the whole athletics community in the under7 - under12 age groups.

The regional championships will offer an array of opportunities for different people in our athletics community. 

  • In country regionals, these competitions will be whole of sport event tailored for the entire athletics community. 
  • For affiliated clubs, a teams-based competition is offered, where athletes will score points for their club to be crowned the best club in that region. 
  • For athletes with individual aspirations, the Regional Championships will also serve as a direct qualifier to the inaugural Youth Championships to take place in March 2024.

The Regional Championships are open to all athletes in the Under 7 - Under 12 age groups, and located within the region. 

However, it is cheaper if you are a member with an Athletics NSW affiliated club. 

 

Eligible memberships for the discounted price include Open, Junior, Youth, Kids or Concession, as per the competition rules.

In Country regions, there will be events offered for all athletes, no matter their age.

Athletes do not have to be registered members of Athletics NSW to compete, but you do get a discount if you are.

Entries

Cost of entry is $20 for members of Athletics NSW.

This entitles an athletes to 3 events (metro regions) or 4 events (country regions)

Yes you can.

However, the entry fee will be a little higher given you don’t have a membership with Athletics NSW.

Cost will be $32.50. for up to 4 events, excluding the relay event, as noted in the competition rules. 

Yes, athletes who finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd will receive an ANSW Regional Championship medal. 

Athletes in Country regions can enter up to 4 individual events.

Athletes in Metro regions can enter up to 3 individual events.

Relays are not included in this count.

Entries will be available approximately a month from the Regional Championships date and close 10 days before the regions.

All entries will be made directly with Athletics NSW.

 

There will be no entries available on the day.

NSW Youth Championships Progression

Yes, if you are in the Under 8, Under 9, Under 10, Under 11, Under 12 age groups, you can qualify for the NSW Youth Championships.

This Championship will be held in conjunction with the NSW Open Championships, allowing you to share the track with some of NSW and Australia’s best athletes.

If you finish 1st or 2nd you progress automatically to the NSW Youth Championships.

In the Under 12 age group, there is a pathway to the National Championships. Athletes need to progress from the Regional Championships to the State Youth Championships, to go to the National Championships

Information for Clubs/Centres

No you don’t.

All entries are made by individuals. This method has been chosen to remove the workload for Clubs and Club Volunteers

Promotion of this event to your athletes is all we ask from you. 

Not at all, any athlete may participate.

While there is a progression to the State Championships and medals up for grabs, what we are really trying to promote is the participation of athletes, including the point score based elements of this competition. 

Each Regional Championship will have a club vs club point score attached.

These point scores are for clubs affiliated with Athletics NSW.
