CHAMPIONSHIPS & PATHWAYS

The State Track & Field Championships is for Secondary School students; incorporating students from all sectors of the education system, including Government, Catholic & Independent.

Aged 12-19? The NSW Junior Championships are for you. There are no qualifying standards or requirements to progress from a previous competition. Be a current financial member of Athletics NSW, and you are eligible to enter the competition!

While being a State Championships, the competition incorporates athletes of all standards and abilities, and is fully inclusive of para athletics.  There are no barriers from getting involved.

The NSW Junior Championships takes place in February each year and is the key qualification opportunity for the National Championships that takes place in April each year.

Australian All Schools Championships

Athletics Australia delivers a fully inclusive National All Schools Championships for athletes aged 12- 18 in December each year.  The competition is offered in the 12, 13, 14. 15. 16. 17 & 18 age groups.

Athletes can qualify for the National All Schools Championships via finishing 1st  or 2nd  at the NSW All Schools Championships.

Australian Junior Championships

Athletics Australia delivers a fully inclusive National Championships for athletes aged 12- 19 in April each year.  The competition is offered in the U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U18 and U20 age groups, and is combined with the Open Championships, providing a seamless pathway from 12 to becoming our next Olympian.

Athletes can qualify for the National Championships in one of two ways. Via finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the corresponding event at the NSW Junior Championships, or by reaching the National Championships qualifying standard set by Athletics Australia.

Why do one event when you can do many? The NSW Combined (Multi) Event Championships are held each summer for athletes aged 12- Masters.

A full suite of distance events are available on the track! That goes without saying. However, during the winter months, get off the track and participate in our Winter Cross Country, Road and Road Walking Championships. Compete for your club and score points in our winter premiership, or if you are so inclined race it out for State Championship medals and National Cross Country and Road Walking positions.  The Winter Series is for athletes young and old, and of any ability. It’s all about getting out and participating.

PARTICIPATION & PERFORMANCE

Mate vs Mate, Club vs Club. In an inherently individual sport, the Treloar Shield is a weekly team-based competition that allows athletes to contribute to a club point score and qualify the club for the final. 

Athletes aged 9-90+ can participate in a range of events held on a rotational basis throughout the series. Rounds of the Treloar Shield regularly attracts weekend warriors, new ANSW members, future and current Olympians. The Treloar Shield is literally for everyone.

Set in a friendly and welcoming environment, no matter your aspirations, the next PB, State or National qualification, or simply to contribute for your club to make the final, this one is for you!

A weekend full of relays! Track or field, whether you are 8 or 80 you can participate.  Get your club mates together and participate in a fun and inclusive environment, all about your club. No individual aspirations here, just how you will contribute with your club mates over sprint, distance and field relays!

Live outside Sydney? You need to get involved in the NSW Country Championships! The highlight of the year for so many country athletes, it takes place annually in January. Held on a rotational basis on one of the state quality regional facilities, the Country Championships is a whole of sport competition, incorporating athletes who are 8-80+.

Set in a friendly and welcoming environment, the only prerequisite is current  Athletics NSW membership. Club bragging rights are on the line, with each athlete contributing to a club point score that crowns the premier club in country NSW.

Want some more competition opportunities?  Need a State or National Qualifier, or just want to compete more? Specialist meets are meets conducted in a single discipline. Milers are for distance runners, high velocity for sprinters, throwers club for throwers. There is something for everyone.

Many ANSW affiliated club run friendly, laid back and informal one off or weekly club competitions accessible to members of any club. Including Cross Country, Road Walks and Track and Field, these competitions are great ways to get involved in formal athletics in a relaxed environment. Clubs add these events to the ANSW website throughout the season so check our calendar regularly for the latest information.
