NSW All Schools - Day 3 Review: Dan Williams leads the world; Perkins claims title #6 as we see all-time bests in the women’s 80

The performances went up a notch on the final day of the NSW All Schools Championships, led by a World leading performance by 800m athlete Daniel Williams. Sam Perkins competed a perfect NSW All Schools journey with a sixth consecutive title, while 16-year-olds Ivy Boothroyd (800m) and Izzi Louison-Roe (triple jump) recorded the best ever performances in the history of the championships.

NSW All Schools - Day 1 Review: 40-year best for Louison-Roe and Beacroft the best ever

The 2023 NSW All Schools Athletics Championship kicked off in style with a series of record breaking performances from our emerging talent. In the first field event on the program, Commonwealth Youth Games medallists Izzi Louise-Roe leapt out to 6.13m in the long jump – the longest jump at the meet for 40-years, while in the very last event on day one, we witnessed Isaac Beacroft record the best race walking performance in the history of the meet, first held in 1936 – 87 years ago.

But such is the depth in NSW juniors, many face very tough competition to win.

10 NSW athletes selected for National teams

NSW are well represented in the final two National teams for 2023. Later this month, at the newly expanded World Athletics Road Running Championships, three NSW athletes, headlined by Jessica Hull in her seventh Australian team in two years, competes in Lativa at the two-day championships. In late November, seven NSW athletes compete at the Pacific Games in the Solomon Games, a key competition for those with Paris Olympic Games aspirations.

Sydney Half Marathon: Record shattering run by Niamh Allen

Sydney-based Irish athlete Niamh Allen has run herself into the record books with a remarkable winning time of 1:12.44 in the 33rd Sydney Half Marathon this morning at Sydney Olympic Park. Her training partner at Run Crew, dual Olympian Ben St Lawrence, likewise was just as impressive winning the men’s race in 65:55.

NSW athletes close World Championships with three medals

After nine days of thrilling competition, the world championships came to a close this morning in Budapest. The performances across the week matched the high daily temperatures at the 19th edition of the global meet. NSW won half the Nationals teams’ medals, through Mackenzie Little’s javelin throw bronze, and our pair of high jumpers Eleanor Patterson with silver and Nicole Olyslagers with bronze.

At the 83rd Australian Cross Country Championships in Canberra today, both NSW open teams finished on the podium while there were individual wins in the para races by Tamsin Colley and Kyle McIntosh.

Australian Cross Country Championships: Juniors on the Rise

For NSW finest distance running talent, next week all roads lead to Canberra for the 83rd Australian Cross Country Championships. The event, at Stromlo Forest, includes athletes from ages 10 to senior. The races feature many of the Australian representatives from the recent World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Bathurst.
