NSW Junior Championships Day 1: hurdlers highlight

The 11-day festival of athletics in NSW got underway at Homebush today in perfect conditions. With steeplechase and 400/300/200m hurdle events on the program, the officials were working overtime moving barriers and hurdles.

In just over a week, we will commence an historic 11-day period of athletics at Homebush where we will conduct four major competitions and see athletes from the age eight competing together at the same venue as Olympians.

NSW Junior Championships: 5 emerging athletes to watch

Next week a record 2200 NSW teenagers will compete in the 4-day State Junior Championships. Many of our established junior stars, like Mason McGroder, Delta Amidzovski, Izzi Louison-Roe, Daniel Williams, Mitchell Hatfield, Fleur Cooper and Chelsy Wayne will be in action, but who are some of the next in line set to impress? Let’s meet five emerging athletes ready to shine this year.

11 Day Festival of Athletics

In just over a week, we will commence an historic 11-day period of athletics at Homebush where we will conduct four major competitions and see athletes from the age eight competing together at the same venue as Olympians. The exciting period of athletics is a massive undertaking, and will test our athletes, clubs/centres, coaches and especially technical officials and NSW Athletics staff during the 67 hours, or equivalent of three continuous days of competition.

VALE Don Brodie OAM

Last week the athletics community lost one of its much loved and longest serving volunteers, when Don Brodie passed away aged 96. Don’s enormous contribution to the sport, largely with Western Suburbs Athletics Club, was a seven-decade involvement in administration and coaching at the club that continued as recently as 2013 when he was President while in his 80s.

Albie Thomas/Australian Mile

In perfect conditions at Bankstown in Sydney last evening, NSW’s Josh Phillips and Victorian Claudia Hollingsworth claimed the 2025 Australian mile championship held at the annual Albie Thomas Mile meet.

NSW Athletics Announces Financial Assistance Programs

NSW Athletics is proud to announce two financial assistance programs aimed at supporting athletes, coaches, and officials in attending state, national, and international championships. These programs provide essential funding to help cover travel and accommodation costs, ensuring greater opportunities for participation.

Short Track Nationals: Queen Connolly and Delta double

The inaugural Australian Athletics Short Track Championships were held in Sydney on Saturday with the focus for many athletes the World Indoor Championships next month. A number of events attracted ‘track classic’ standard lineups, particularly over 60 metres.
