The 11-day festival of athletics in NSW got underway at Homebush today in perfect conditions. With steeplechase and 400/300/200m hurdle events on the program, the officials were working overtime moving barriers and hurdles.

11 Day Festival of Athletics
In just over a week, we will commence an historic 11-day period of athletics at Homebush where we will conduct four major competitions and see athletes from the age eight competing together at the same venue as Olympians.
The exciting period of athletics is a massive undertaking, and will test our athletes, clubs/centres, coaches and especially technical officials and NSW Athletics staff during the 67 hours, or equivalent of three continuous days of competition.
VALE Don Brodie OAM
Last week the athletics community lost one of its much loved and longest serving volunteers, when Don Brodie passed away aged 96. Don’s enormous contribution to the sport, largely with Western Suburbs Athletics Club, was a seven-decade involvement in administration and coaching at the club that continued as recently as 2013 when he was President while in his 80s.

In perfect conditions at Bankstown in Sydney last evening, NSW’s Josh Phillips and Victorian Claudia Hollingsworth claimed the 2025 Australian mile championship held at the annual Albie Thomas Mile meet.

Izzy Thornton-Bott and Luke Hince crowned State 5000 metre champions
The 2025 NSW 5000m championships were contrasting races, held in drizzling rain on the warmup track at Sydney Olympic Park. Kembla Joggers athlete, Luke Hince won the men’s race, while Bankstown’s Izzy Thornton-Bott took the women’s title.
Short Track Nationals: Queen Connolly and Delta double
The inaugural Australian Athletics Short Track Championships were held in Sydney on Saturday with the focus for many athletes the World Indoor Championships next month. A number of events attracted ‘track classic’ standard lineups, particularly over 60 metres.
