World Para Athletics Championships – 10 things to know
Dates: 27 September to 5 October 2025 (9 days of competition)
Location: Indian city of New Delhi, population 22 million
Competition commences/timezone: Saturday 9:00am 27 September or Saturday 3pm 27 September NSW/Sydney time. Competition venue: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
2025 is the 12th edition of the World Para Athletics Championships. They were first held in 1994 in Berlin. Between 2019 and 2022, no championships were held due to COVID, but since championships have been held in 2023 (Paris), 2024 (Kobe) and now 2-25 (New Delhi). In 2011 Christchurch hosted the championships.
Three NSW athletes have won the most medals by any Australian athlete 13 - Louise Sauvage, 12 - Angie Ballard & Evan O'Hanlon.
Australia will have a team of 51 in New Delhi at the 2025 championships
Outside the Paralympic Games, they are the premier championships for Para athletes. They include competition in all classifications, but not all events.
