One of the most outstanding NSW All Schools athletes, Angus Beer closed his highly successful six years campaign with yet another middle-distance double on day three of the NSW All Schools being held at Homebush this weekend. The tall front running athlete from Newington College, has been a feature athlete at the meet for six years. He also departs leaving a legacy for the next wave of athletes following in his big footsteps.

Inconsistent winds greeted the athletes on day three of the NSW All Schools Championships being held at Homebush. The first para events were held, while some of the sprinters clinched doubles.

Most winners during the four days of the NSW All Schools will have been on our radar following performances in the last few years at the many meets ranging from Schools to Little Athletics or Athletics NSW competition. But occasionally we are surprised by an unknown rising talent and one of them emerged today, when 15-year-old Roseville College athlete, Erin Shaw cleared 1.77m in the high jump to take down Nicole McDermott’s meet record.

There were records galore on day one of the NSW All Schools Championships as the 2019/20 season got down to business with the first meet of the summer. Gentle legal tail winds benefited the 200m hurdlers who took advantage of them.

After missing selection in the Australian team for the World University Games in the idyllic city of Naples, steeplechaser Georgia Winkcup shifted her focus for the European summer. She would race in June at the Oceania Championships in Townsville, then head to Europe; not to compete, but for a holiday and Contiki tour. However, all that changed in less than 10 minutes on 27 June – after improving her PB by 39 sec during three races, she is now travelling to Doha for the World Athletics Champs.

High jumper Brandon Starc heads a strong contingent of 19 NSW athletes who were today named as members of the 61 strong Australian team for the 17th IAAF World Athletics Championships to be held in Doha from September 27.
