Stevens qualifies for Tokyo, while Gikas steps up over 400m

With less than nine months to the Tokyo Olympics, performances stepped-up at meet six of the Treloar Shield in Sydney yesterday. In her first competition for 14 months, Commonwealth Games discus gold medallists Dani Stevens nailed her Tokyo qualifier in her first competition back, while on the track, 20-year-old John Gikas stunned with a 45.87 clocking in the 400m.

The flawless performance of James Turner at the World Para Athletics Championships, continued on day eight as he won his second gold medal and claimed another world record. Although based in Canada Guy Henly showed he has been maintaining his form winning his fourth consecutive medal at the world championships. NSW athletes closed the world championships with two gold and three bronze medals.

The second edition of NAB RunWest will take place in Western Sydney on Sunday March 29, 2020. The 2020 NAB RunWest will again comprise a 12km Fun Run and 4km Family Fun Run, culminating with the finish line and finish festival at West HQ. Gold to Turner at World Para Athletics Championships

Triple-world champion at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, James Turner has continued that form in Dubai this week at the 2019 Worlds, but in a new event, becoming the T36 100m world champion. A margin of 0.005 seconds or 5 milliseconds was the different in Nick Hough progressing to the semi-finals of the 110m hurdles, while for the second consecutive world championships, Morgan McDonald has missed the 5000m final by less than half a second in a race lasting over 13 minutes. While in the women’s events Bendere Oboya and Paige Campbell have been outstanding.

NSW All Schools Day Four: Delta dominates

On the final day of the four-day NSW All Schools Wollongong’s Delta Amidzovski added two more records to her tally of three at the championships, while in the men’s 1500m and 400m events we witnessed some of the fastest times in the history of the meet.
