Commonwealth Games Preview

Tonight six day of Athletics action on the track and in the field gets underway in Birmingham. The depth in many of the events is truly world class, like the men’s 1500m including three of the top-4 from the Tokyo Olympic final are in the field. 26 NSW athletes will compete across the program. The number was recently boosted when Alec Diamond was added to the decathlon, following the withdrawal of Ash Moloney.

World U20 Championships: Day 1 Kitching, Bond & Lightfoot progress

After a long wait for Australia’s leading teenage athletes, competition got underway in Cali, Colombia this morning when the World U20 Championships kicked off. The six-day competition will see 55 Aussies, including 16 NSW athletes in action. Across the morning and afternoon sessions, three NSW athletes, Hayley Kitching, Connor Bond and Mitchell Lightfoot smoothly progressed to the next rounds.

World U20 Championships: Preview

Australia have arrived in Cali for the six-day World Athletics U20 Championships which commence Tuesday morning AEST. The team has historically won a few medals, averaging four for each of the recent championships. But a look at the entries from the 145 Nations and you realise how difficult this task will be. On Thursday 21 July, the 2021/22 Athletics NSW (ANSW) Annual General Meeting was held, with two new Directors elected and one Director, David Lewis, re-elected to serve another term on the ANSW Board.

NSW Road Relays return

After two years missed due to COVID, the NSW Road Relay Championships made a triumphant return in 2022 and to their recent home, Newcastle University, Ourimbah Campus on the Central Coast. There were exciting wins for Randwick Botany and UTS Norths.

World Championships Day 2 Review: Five progress to the next round

A terrific day for NSW athletes on day two of the World Athletics Championships with 5 out of 5 athletes progressing to the next rounds, including three into finals. Metric milers, Jess Hull and Olli Hoare cruise into the 1500m final and semi-final respectively, while high jump medal hopes, Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson made it to the final. In his fifth Games, Nick Hough made his fourth global 110m hurdles semi-final.
