Technical Official Kim Owens receives an AM
In the King’s Birthday 2026 Honours List, Athletics NSW technical official Kim Owens, was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to athletics as an official and administrator.
From volunteering on the administration services committee in 1996 when Australia hosted the World Juniors in Sydney, Kim made her international technical official debut in the call room, on the track and in the field at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and Paralympics.
She was again on the international stage as judge at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Over the next decade Kim supported our Pacific neighbours as a technical official, including meeting manager, at various Oceania and area competitions including the Oceania Championships, Pacific Games and Polynesian Championships.
Over the last few Kim has completed her World Athletics Silver and Gold referee courses and is currently a member of the World Para Athletics International Panel (2023-2028), resulting in numerous appointments to international Para-Athletics competitions including 2023 Asian Para Games, 2023 and 2025 World Para Athletics Championships and Paris Paralympics. Also in recent years she has officiated at the 2023 World Cross Country and 2025 World Indoors.
Away from the track, Kim has been a member of two Officials committees – Athletics NSW (since 2009) and Australian Athletics (since 2013).
Kim follows her mother, Rosemary Owens, who received many awards for volunteering and officiating including an OAM.
