Athletics NSW Releases First Version of Summer 2022/23 Calendar

Today, Athletics NSW is proud to share with our membership the first iteration of the Summer 2022/23 Calendar. The Summer 2022/23 Calendar is segmented into four tiers of competition, which will appeal to every athlete regardless of age or ability.

Athletics NSW has developed this calendar with significant consultation from each event discipline group from May-August 2022, and this calendar has been a joint contribution from our community and Athletics NSW. The timing of the release is following feedback stating that information regarding the calendar is available as soon as possible, and Athletics NSW has endeavoured to deliver on this feedback as best as possible.
This collaborative process will be followed in seasons to come and ensures that Athletics NSW provides meaningful competition products and opportunities to satisfy our membership’s expectations.

The Treloar Shield series, which has traditionally featured several rounds of club-focussed competition, returns with a six-round series plus the addition of the "Treloar Shield Grand Final". The series will have all clubs across multiple junior, open and masters age category divisions going head-to-head on a weekly basis, with the Final featuring a winner-takes-all format. The Final itself will have a six-round narrative leading into it, providing great content for all members and club administrators to get involved in.

This season will also welcome the comeback of the Albie Thomas Mile and Illawarra Track Challenge as "Gold Tier meets”, focussing on both performance and participation through elite, club and recreational event offerings, as well as our full suite of NSW Championship events, starting with the NSW All Schools Championships and ending with the NSW Open & U23 Championships.

In line with supporting our member clubs, Athletics NSW is excited to co-deliver this season’s NSW Relays Championships with the Campbelltown Collegians Athletics Club in celebration of their 50th Anniversary.

In summary, the 2022/23 Season will be a full year of track and field competition suited to athletes of every age, ability, aspiration and background.

Athletics NSW CEO Christian Renford stated that “We are committed to ensuring that every level of athlete can access quality competitions, week-in, week-out for the Summer 2022/23 Season. This season is the first in a multi-year strategy where Athletics NSW will continue to collaborate with clubs and administrators across the state to build our competition offerings, our relationships in assisting with club competition delivery, and empowering clubs to run their own competitions self-sufficiently, allowing growth, increased capability, and overall, a better experience for our 8,500 members.”

A note at the bottom of the calendar states that this is the first iteration of the Summer 2022/23 calendar and that further specialist meets (including the NSW Milers Series, NSW High Velocity Series, as well as NSW Throwers Club series and jumps events) and other post-Christmas competition opportunities will be available in due course, and that post-Christmas date are in draft and subject to change based on the release of the Athletics Australia Calendar.
