Competition Rules (Updated as of 27th February 5:00pm)

With nearly 20% more entries from last year, the 2024 NSW Masters Championships have exceeded all expectations demonstrating the continued growth and momentum that our sport is experiencing.

While we thank all clubs and athletes for their participation, the increase in entries for the 2024 NSW Masters Championships has created several challenges in delivering this competition to the standards that we and the participants expect - especially in field events.

The first iteration of the final timetable had the field events finishing at after 8pm both days. A scenario that is not feasible.

As such, ANSW subsequently engaged with NSW Masters Association to identify possible solutions to address this situation, one of which involved recruiting further officials/workforce to alleviate the demands on the exiting officials. Unfortunately between ANSW and the NSW Masters Association we have been unable to secure enough officials to safely run the throws and horizontal jumps program.

ANSW has therefore made the unfortunate yet necessary decision to amend the rule relating to attempts for all throws and horizontal jumps. Athletes will now be provided with three (3) attempts, with the top 8 afforded an additional one (1) attempt.

While ANSW accepts it is not an ideal scenario to amend the competition rules this late to the competition, we maintain this is the most prudent outcome to support the tireless work and commitment of ANSW Technical Officials, while ensuring the safety of all athletes and that the Championships can be delivered to the standard expected of a state level event.

ANSW will work with the NSW Masters Association to review and if necessary, amend the structure of the Championships for future iterations to ensure that the competition meets the expectations of ANSW’s Masters Members, while catering for the impressive growth in participation numbers.
