Statement regarding Hunter Track Classic 2020

The Hunter Track Classic was originally an Athletics Australia National Series Meet in 2001 and 2002. In 2012 Athletics NSW rejuvenated the Hunter Track Classic which on occasions was a stop on the National Series.

Coach Profile: Warren Williams

A significantly growing trend in 2019 has been the increase in athletes participating in Athletics NSW recreational runs, primarily in winter, but also on the track. Coaching squads, like Warren Williams’ ‘The Run Squad’ have been key contributors to this increase in participation numbers. At the 2019 Athletics NSW Awards, Williams was named the Recreational Running Coach of the Year.

Close battles highlight NSW Club Championships

Thrilling finishes highlighted a very successful 2019/20 season NSW Club Championships with 120 teams battling to team supremacy in the 14 divisions. Most successful were UTS Norths in the juniors, Sydney University in the opens and UTS Norths and Mingara sharing the honours in the masters.

Inspired Ashlyn Blackstock heads to Australian All Schools

Near 300 of NSW’s promising teenage athletics talent head to Perth this week to compete at the Australian All Schools Championships. Amongst the team, will be Newcastle thrower Ashlyn Blackstock who has been making significant progress this year and received a boost just days out, competing for the first time against her idol – Dani Stevens.

Stevens qualifies for Tokyo, while Gikas steps up over 400m

With less than nine months to the Tokyo Olympics, performances stepped-up at meet six of the Treloar Shield in Sydney yesterday. In her first competition for 14 months, Commonwealth Games discus gold medallists Dani Stevens nailed her Tokyo qualifier in her first competition back, while on the track, 20-year-old John Gikas stunned with a 45.87 clocking in the 400m.

More Gold to Turner at World Para Athletics Championships

The flawless performance of James Turner at the World Para Athletics Championships, continued on day eight as he won his second gold medal and claimed another world record. Although based in Canada Guy Henly showed he has been maintaining his form winning his fourth consecutive medal at the world championships. NSW athletes closed the world championships with two gold and three bronze medals.

RunWest bringing people "together" in 2020

The second edition of NAB RunWest will take place in Western Sydney on Sunday March 29, 2020. The 2020 NAB RunWest will again comprise a 12km Fun Run and 4km Family Fun Run, culminating with the finish line and finish festival at West HQ. Registrations for the 2020 NAB RunWest event will officially open on Thursday, November 21, 2020, at www.runthewest.com.au.

Gold to Turner at World Para Athletics Championships

Triple-world champion at the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships in London, James Turner has continued that form in Dubai this week at the 2019 Worlds, but in a new event, becoming the T36 100m world champion. Turner has been the NSW highlight on days 1 to 5 of the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships.

Paige Campbell continues her world championships form with State 3000m title

Her last race was a personal best on the world’s biggest stage – at the IAAF World Championships, and one month on, Paige Campbell continued that terrific form last night, defending her NSW 3000m title at the State Championships held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre warmup track.
