The Athletics NSW Competition structure can be best divided into Summer and Winter. Athletics NSW works closely with various organisations, including Athletics Australia, Little Athletics NSW and School Sport NSW to provide competition suitable for all athletes.
The Athletics NSW Summer season begins in October and runs through to the beginning of April and offers competitions for all standards and abilities
NSW Secondary All Schools Track and Field Championships
Is our pinnacle competition for secondary school aged track and field athletes within NSW. It allows students from all sectors of the NSW Education System to compete against each other and progress to the National All Schools Championships.
Commencing in mid-October, athletes compete for their club. The competition aims to be an enjoyable experience for athletes of all capabilities and is a way for all athletes to get involved in an organised competition and score points for their club. It seeks to include elite level athletes by providing Photo Finish, electronic timing, wind readings and live results.
Allcomers competitions are open to all Athletics NSW registered athletes. There is no points scored and the competition is graded allowing athletes of similar ability and standard to compete against one another. They are predominantly conducted after Christmas and are accessed by athletes as lead up events for State & National Championships.
“Athletics NSW Permit Meets” are competitions conducted by affiliated clubs, which have been ratified by Athletics NSW under the ANSW permit structure. These meets are conducted under IAAF rules, and allow athletes to qualify for National Championships and be eligible for rankings. Athletes cannot however, break records or post International Qualifiers.
These meets by nature are more relaxed than ANSW events, being a perfect event for athletes wanting good competition but feel they are not ready for Athletics NSW Allcomers competitions at SOPAC. Many of the competitions will have a specific focus, for instance, a throws only meet for the Throwers Club, or a verticals jumps meet at Campbelltown.
This series is designed to provide competition pathways between regular Athletics NSW competitions, such as Club Premiership and Allcomers, and Athletics Australia’s National Series and Grand Prix level meets. To compete, athletes must have bettered the ground entry level standard.
The State Relays are traditionally the biggest event on the Athletics NSW calendar with teams competing in age groups from U14 through to masters. Not only are there the traditional track relays from 4x100m to 4x1500m, but the championships also includes field event relays.
The NSW Country Championships
The Country Championships are held each January and are rotated amongst large country centers with synthetic athletics tracks. The competition is only available to athletes from the country, and has age groups from 10- masters. The competition provides a social event, where country athletes can meet, mingle and enjoy strong competition from their country counterparts.
NSW State Championships
Athletics NSW is the governing organisation responsible for hosting the state Track and Field Championships in a number of age groups ranging from U14 to Masters. The competition attracts the most outstanding athletes in the state and often draws a large number of interstate and international competitors.
