Clark and Gusman crowned NSW 3000m champions

At the first senor state championships of the summer, the NSW 3000m, Olympians and training partners, Milly Clark and Jenny Blundell battled out a high quality 3000m with most athletes slashed second from their personal bests, while in the men’s Jordan Gusman stormed home for a comfortable win in a personal best.

CEO Message - October 2017

Welcome to this month's CEO message, which finds the summer season back up and running.  With two Treloar Shield rounds already in the books, including large fields last weekend at SOPAC for this time of the year, it promises to be an exciting summer ahead, leading up to the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in April.

 Before discussing what lies ahead, I would like to spend a brief moment reviewing the Winter season.  Going into the season, ANSW had introduced two major shifts in strategy:

1.  The events were re-branded, with the idea being to make them less intimidating to people who may have been considering trying a race for the first time; and

VALE – Don Allen

VALE – Don Allen

Aged 85, Don Allen was preparing for his 50th year officiating with Athletics NSW, when he sadly passed away this week. A stalwart of athletics in NSW, Don was a fixture on the high jump fan at athletics meets since he first commenced officiating in 1968 at ES Marks Athletics Field. In the ‘90s he listed high jumpers Katrina and David Morrow as two of his favourite athletes he saw compete. An undoubted highlight in later years for Don was officiating alongside them when they joined the officials ranks in 2012.
