World Championships: Day 8 & 9 reviews – Wellings and Starc compete in finals

The last two days of competition at the IAAF World Championships were strong for NSW with athletes unexpectedly in finals.

Eloise Wellings (SUT) and Brandon Starc (PAR) were stunning with individually spectacular performances in the toughest competition outside of an Olympics. Annaliese Rubie, led her relay to a record breaking performance, marathoner Julia Degan made her international debut and two masters athletes competed amongst the world elite senior athletes.

World Championships: Day 5 evening review – Ella Nelson world champs debut

On the evening of day five of the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, the only NSW athlete in action was rising sprint star Ella Nelson (SYU). She was competing in the first rounds of the 200m where she placed fifth in heat one, in 23.33, run into a headwind of 0.9m/s. She missed progression by a couple of tenths of a second.

World Championships: Day 5 morning review – Hough makes world champs debut

On the morning of day five of the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, Nick Hough (SYU), competing for the first occasion in the hurdles in a global senior event, performed well, clocking 13.69 to place sixth in his heat. He was just 0.08 seconds and a few places short of progressing to the semi-final.

World Championships: Day 4 evening review – Lapierre surprises with silver

Hoping for a medal on day four of the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, Fabrice Lapierre (WES) surprised with silver in the long jump, while Dani Samuels (WES) was sixth in the discus and Annaliese Rubie (SYU) seventh in her 400m semi-final.
