Race walker to make her second Oceania Championships appearance

Making her final preparation for next month’s Oceania Athletics Championships is talented race walker Jayde Hill. Based on the NSW north coast, Hill, 17, has been one of NSW’s leading race walkers this summer, highlighted by a third place in the NSW open 5000m walk championship where she defeated Olympian Cheryl Webb and world junior representative Jasmine Dighton.

Sydney University double at NSW Novice Championships

The 103rd NSW Novice Championships were held on Saturday at the iconic Scarborough Park, Ramsgate venue, which has hosted this event since 1940, a staggering consecutive 75 years. In warm and dry conditions Sydney University claimed the double courtesy of David Mulvee and Emily Ryan. Both athletes are also coached by the club’s Athletics Manager, Dean Gleeson, who becomes the first coach in the 36 year history of the race, since a women’s race was introduced, to claim this double.

VALE – Mike Moroney AM

Last month track and field athlete, Mike Moroney, sadly passed away in Tamworth. Moroney competed at the highest level in the sport, the Olympics, had a successful career in broadcasting, was a family man, a Christian, and a hard working volunteer in charity work and the local community, for which he was twice named citizen of the year in Tamworth and awarded an AM (Australian Medal) in 1999.
