The opening event at the 117th NSW Track and Field Championships was extraordinary. The AWD long jump competition produced an Oceania record, six Australian records and 12 Commonwealth Games qualifying jumps by three athletes.
The 117th NSW Track and Field Championships will be held at the Sydney
Olympic Park Athletics Centre this weekend. First held in 1888, there is no
doubt more history will be written at the 2014 edition of the championships
which start on Friday at 6pm. A few events of particular interest are:
NSW’s Masters athletes were in record breaking form at the State Championships
held in Newcastle last weekend. Conditions were near perfect at the Hunter
Sports Centre at Glendale.
On March 12
we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Sydney Olympic
Park Athletics Centre or as it was then titled Sydney Athletics Centre. The
occasion was the hosting of the 1994 Australian Track and Field championships.
