Athletics NSW is thrilled to be informed that three volunteers and one of our events has been recognised as finalists in the prestigious 2019 NSW Community Sports Awards announced yesterday. It is a tremendous achievement as just six volunteers or events are named as finalists in each category annually.
Today 17 NSW athletes were announced in the Australian team for the 2019 World University Games to be held in Naples in July. The multi-sport Games is considered a perfect pathway meet from juniors transitioning to world championships/Olympics.
Mingara Athletics Club capped off another successful summer season, winning Country Club of the Year at the 2019 Athletics NSW Awards Dinner last week.
A new category introduced at the 2019 Athletics Annual Awards held last week in Sydney was the special achievement award. One of the inaugural winners was Dan Suchy for his outstanding work with the Westsfields Schools athletics program and the Westfields Athletics Club which has helped develop Dani Stevens, Fabrice Lapierre and John Thornell.
On Saturday night at the 2019 Athletics NSW Annual Awards over 180 people celebrated our great year of athletics which commenced at the Commonwealth Games in April. Recognised were officials, volunteers, coaches, clubs and of course the athletes who made it a year to remember.
