In a messy race where two athletes failed to finish, Georgia Wassall (SYU) has won Australia’s first medal at the IAAF world juniors currently being conducted In Oregon, USA. Wassall clocked 2:02.71 her third fastest time ever.

Australian Spark ready for the World Juniors

On Wednesday morning, Australian time, the 15th IAAF world junior championships kick off in Eugene Oregon in the US. Twenty NSW athletes will do battle. The championships are significant with 1540 athletes from 167 countries, just short of the record 176 nations at Beijing in 2006, but exceeding the 142 in Sydney in 1996. A truly global sport, strong competition will come from every continent. Included in the athlete profiles below are their ranking amongst entries in this competitive competition.
