17 named for World University Games
Today 17 NSW athletes were announced in the Australian team for the 2019 World University Games to be held in Naples in July. The multi-sport Games is considered a perfect pathway meet from juniors transitioning to world championships/Olympics.
The team includes Alysha Burnett who won silver in the heptathlon at the previous Games in 2017. A Doha hopeful is steeplechaser Paige Campbell who has already run a global meet this year – the world cross championships where she placed 29th. It is also her second appearance at the World University Games, placing fourth in 2017.
Another athlete making her second World University Games appearance in Stanford University student Mackenzie Little (UTN). The current NCAA champion is regarded as the future of the event in Australia.
UTS Norths club have placed an staggering eight athletes on the team, while Cherrybrook & Sydney University have three each.
The 2019 World University Games (Summer Universiade) will take place from 3-14 July 2019 in Naples, Italy.
