WARATAH RUN SERIES
The Waratah Run Series is a rebranded and remodelled set of XC, road races and relays events. These events are for participants of all ages and abilities, and focus on participant enjoyment and on the day entertainment. Formally known as the ‘Athletics NSW Winter Series’, the Waratah Run Series is a community based social event, incorporating a championship component.
2018 WARATAH SERIES SHORT COURSE
The 2018 Waratah Series Short Course is an amalgamation of the Athletics NSW Short Course Cross Country Championships and the Little Athletics NSW Cross Country Championships. Races in the U7 - U11 age groups will be conducted under Little Athletics NSW rules and races in the U13 - 75+ age groups will be conducted under Athletics NSW rules.
The Waratah Series Short Course is a unique event which needs to be marked in your running calendar! There are a range of different distances on trails throughout at the home of the Kembla Joggers club, which are suitable for all ages and abilities. Hosted by the Kembla Joggers club, the 2018 edition of the event will be held at Integral Energy Park, Dapto. On top of this, the event will play host to on the day activations, food and drink stalls, captivating race callers as well as entertaining music.

Para-athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate at this year's Waratah Series Challenge!
The following distances are being offered to the following age groups:
U9 Para-Athletes will run 800m. The U9 Para-Athlete Boys will run at 9:20am, and the U9 Para-Athlete Girls will run at 9:30am.
U11 Para-Athlete will run 1500m. The U11 Para-Athlete Boys will run at 10:10am, and the U11 Para-Athlete Girls will run at 10:25am.
U14, U16, U18, U20, and Open Para-Athletes will run 3km. These male age groups will run at 1:20pm, and these female age groups will run at 1:45pm.
Para-athlete medals will be awarded in the following age groups:
Little Athletics NSW Age Groups - U9, U11 Para-Athlete
Athletcs NSW Age Groups - U14, U16, U18, U20, Open Para-Athlete
Entry fees on the day will be as follows:
Runners U7 - U11 - $10 for members + non-members
Runners U13 and older - $20 for members/$40 for non-members

HOW TO ENTER
Online entries for all events have now closed.
On the day entry is available at the registration desk. An on the day entry must be submitted at least 45 minutes before the start of the race. Please view the prices for on the day entry above under "ENTRY FEES".
Members are to be registered with Athletics NSW (or other state member association or Little Athletics NSW) for the 2017-18 season and wear their club uniform with their bibs worn front and back for the duration of the event.
Please note that Little Athletics NSW members only need to wear their registration number on the front of their uniform.
Non-members are eligible to enter however only ANSW registered athletes (or other athletes registered with another state member association) are eligible to receive medals in State Championship events.
ALL athletes will receive a new timing tag for this event, which must be collected from Check In. All timing tags are to be handed back at the conclusion of the event.
Athletics NSW Members (excluding Dual, Community and Club athletes) who have entered online are required to report to athlete check-in to pick up their timing tag for the 2018 Waratah/RunNSW season.
Members will need to wear both their competition bib and dedicated timing tag for their performance to be verified.
Dual members and non-members will be required to report to athlete check in at least 45 minutes prior to the race start time to collect a temporary timing tag. This tag must be returned at the conclusion of the race.
COURSE WALK THROUGH + WARM-UP AREA
All participants are invited for a course walk through on Saturday, 7th July, from 2pm-4pm.
No course walk through will be permitted prior to the first event of the competition on the day, or during the event.
All participants will be welcome to warm-up in a designated area on the day.
No warm-ups will be permitted on the course during the event.

Medals will be presented to all individual medalists after the conclusion of each race. Team medals for the U7 - U18 categories will be awarded on the day. All other team medals will be sent to clubs in the week after the Waratah Series Short Course.

The Kembla Joggers club will be operating a canteen on site. On top of this, the event will play host to on the day activations, encaptivating race callers as well as entertaining music.
NSW WINTER PREMIERSHIP & WINTER TROPHY
Races included in the Waratah Series Short Course will be point scoring events towards the Winter Premiership, Winter Trophy and Distance Runner of the Year.
An athlete’s age in the U7 – U11 age groups are as per Little Athletics NSW rules.
U7 age group - born between 1st October 2010 and 30th September 2011
U8 age group - born between 1st October 2009 and 30th September 2010
U9 age group - born between 1st October 2008 and 30th September 2009
U10 age group - born between 1st October 2007 and 30th September 2008
U11 age group - born between 1st October 2006 and 30th September 2007
The U13 age group will not consist of athletes born between 1st October 2006 and 31st December 2006, as these athletes fall into the U11 Little Athletics age group, as stated above.
U13 age group - born between 1st January 2006 and 30th September 2006
U14-Open age groups are in accordance with Athletics NSW rules. They are:
U14 age group - born between 1st January 2005 and 31st December 2005 (turning 13 years old in 2018)
U15 age group - born between 1st January 2004 and 31st December 2004 (turning 14 years old in 2018)
U16 age group - born between 1st January 2003 and 31st December 2003 (turning 15 years old in 2018)
An athlete’s age in the Masters age groups are calculated as of 8th July 2018.
The 2018 Waratah Series Short Course is conducted in the following age groups:
U7, U8, U9, U10, U11, U13, U14, U15, U16, U17, U20, Open, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+.
Due to the cross over in age divisions between Athletics NSW and Little Athletics NSW there will be no U12 division. Please refer to the below table:

In the U7 – U11 age groups the team format follows the Little Athletics rules.
The team format for the U14 – 75+ age groups follows the Athletics NSW rules.
In the U14, U16 and U18 age groups, ANSW members and dual members represent their senior athletics club. Runners that are registered with LANSW only, represent their Little Athletics Centre.
Click here for age-gender form. This form is to be used by clubs who wish to create teams with members who do not fit naturally into the team. For example an 55+ woman who wants to be in an 35+ club team should be listed on this form, and the form submitted BEFORE the race begins.
2018 Australian Cross Country Championships - NSW Team Selection
The Waratah Series Short Course is one of the eligible events that will allow Under 14/16/18/20 and Open-age athletes to be eligible for NSW Team Selection for this year's 2018 Australian Cross Country Championships.
Please note that all athletes who wish to be eligible for NSW Team Selection will need to compete at the NSW Cross Country State Championships, as part of the Waratah Series Challenge, to be held in Nowra - Saturday, 23rd June.
