  • Develop the general principles of coaching - communication, group management, safety, organisation, and instruction.
  • Provide practical coaching strategies to encourage the development of the sport's fundamental skills of running, jumping and throwing.

Level 2 Intermediate Recreational Running Coach

The Crest Athletics Track. Saturday, April 6, 2019.

This course trains coaches to develop the fundamental technical and strategic skills for runners training for 5km through to ultra-marathon events.  It covers topics such as warm ups, session planning and designing training programs. The course also develops the coach’s skills in managing groups of varied skill levels from novice through to elite. Prerequisite for the course is the Athletics Australia Level 1 Community Coach course or the Level 1 Run Leader course.  RPL for Level 1 is available for qualified Certificate 3 or 4 personal trainers who are taking the Recreational Running Coach pathway.

The Sporting Schools Program provides Accredited Athletics Coaches an opportunity to receive paid employment as a casual employee with Athletics Australia and to deliver the IAAF Kids’ Athletics Program in primary schools across Australia. This is also a perfect opportunity for school teachers to get involved and deliver this program before, during or after school times.

The 'Level 1 Recreational Run Leader' Course introduces how to lead a recreational run group under the guidance of a Level 2 Intermediate Recreational Running Coach or higher. In the course, participants learn the fundamental skills of running and how to design the warm up and cool down components of a session. 

Topics include the introduction to training runners, encouraging long-term participation, the design of warm-up and cool down, fundamental skills of running, running training elements and how to successfully lead run groups.
